PREVIEW: 2022 District 10 Championships

District 10 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

The Rundown:

On paper, defending champion Colson Jenkins (Lakeview) has the top Class A time in the district thus far this year by almost 30 seconds, and most recently won the Cochranton Invitational, where he ran an impressive 16:24. Sam Hetrick finished second and Kyler Woolstrum finished third at that same meet. They'll get a rematch and look to get redemption.

West Middlesex, Rocky Grove and Lakeview are the big three in 1A. West Middlesex (WM) should place three in the top 10. Nick Varga, Luke Schneider and Giovani Rococi have looked strong for WM, and tend to run together. That teamwork will be vital on Saturday as they try to secure the team victory.

Rocky Grove is the two-time defending champion. This year, the Orioles head to Titusville with an invitational title to their credit, something they were not able to say in 2020 and '21. Lakeview and West Middlesex had matching 68s in the books at the Cochranton Cardinal Invitational four weeks ago, with the Big Reds winning the tiebreaker.

District 10 Class AA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Contending Teams: Grove City

The Rundown:

A year ago, the Grove City Eagles won their fifth consecutive district championship and 10th in the past 12 years, scoring just 23 points and winning by 71. Joshua Jones and M J Pottinger, now a senior and sophomore, respectively, led the way for Grove City with a 1-2 finish.

Fast forward to 2022, and Grove City just completed a 15th straight undefeated dual meet season, with the boys team's record 99-0 during that span. Jones led Mike Sample's team to a convincing victory at the PIAA Foundation meet, while the Eagles also finished a strong fourth in running up in Class AAA at the Red, White & Blue Classic and topped newly minted WPIAL AA champion Hampton at Grove City's home invite. In the PA MileSplit rankings of top times, Jones and Pottinger are at the top, with five of the first 10 wearing Eagle uniforms.

MJ Pottinger has come on strong as of late. He ran really well towards the end of the regular season and is rounding into form despite only being a sophomore. He often runs with his teammate Josh Jones, who will be a threat on Saturday.

But watch out for Luke Brown, who has burst onto the scene. He was a surprise victor in the 1A race at the Manhattan Invitational. A week earlier, he ran a 15:10 3-Mile. He'll be in it and may steal another win.

District 8/10 Class AAA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Contending TeamsMcDowell, Taylor Allderdice

The Rundown:

The boys' favorites are clear coming out of Districts 8 and 10 - Taylor Allderdice and McDowell.  The edge goes to a McDowell team that has looked like a fringe Top-10 team throughout the year. McDowell most recently won the Northwest PA Invitational.

Kamden Kramer enters as the individual favorite. He ran 15:43 earlier this year and opened the invitational season with the second-fastest time by a sophomore in PA in 2022. In early September, he was a strong third at the Red, White & Blue Classic. His teammate in Mattern has been steadily improving as well. Owen Bluman of TA has also enjoyed a strong senior year. He has put together a strong of Top-5 finishes.

With senior Owen Bluman leading the way, Taylor Allderdice claimed five of the top six places in the Pittsburgh City League championship (District 8).
