LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Red Raider indoor track and field team had a solid performance on Saturday afternoon when it returned to competitive action from the Bucknell Heptagonal and finished fourth overall, narrowly behind PSAC Eastern Division rival East Stroudsburg.
"The men's team has progressed well," head coach
Dave Osanitsch said after the meet. "It's still early in the season for certain events, but we will try to make some improvements heading into the rest of the season."
Senior
Donnie Graybill thrived once again by winning the pole vault, clearing 15-03 to take first place. Junior
Andrew Campolongo and sophomore
Travis Hammaker both cleared 14-03.25 to score points in the event.
Three Red Raiders scored in the mile. Sophomore
Ed Buck was second with a time of 4:14.29, the fastest in the PSAC this season, while freshman
Matt Gillette was third in 4:15.18 and sophomore
Stephen Schelander was sixth in 4:17.40. Buck had a strong meet and also finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:31.21, while Gillette was also fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:53.82.
Junior
Dustin Adams impressed in the 5,000-meter run, finishing second with a time of 15:20.74 that currently ranks second in the PSAC. Sophomore
Greg Ahlswede added a point with a sixth-place finish.
Among field events, freshman
Elijah Trusty took third in the long jump after a jump of 22' 02 1/4" while fellow frosh
Matthew Terry finished third in the triple jump after leaping 46' 8".
In throws, junior
Tappah Dinnall took fifth in the weight throw with a launch of 48' 9 1/2" while sophomore
Travis Nye scored a point in the weight throw and the shot put.
The 4x800-meter relay of senior
Ryan Boyer, freshman
Joel Flott, sophomore
Pio Mandato and junior
Matt Gelety finished second with a time of 8:04.71.
The 4x400-meter relay of sophomore
Tyrek Nelson, junior
Todd Phillips, sophomore
Eric Wolfe and freshman
Marcus Line took fourth place with a time of 3:25.21.
On Friday night, the DMR squad will compete at the Penn State National Invitational. The team will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Open and Multi.
