9/18-Council Rock North rolls over LaSalle & NE#7 Chaminade-Henderson girls take Gwynedd @ Briarwood

NE#7 Chaminade NY came into PA with high hopes, and left with a 3rd place behind a very strong Council Rock North squad, 1st with 51 points, and just five up on LaSalle. Chaminade #1 Kevin Mcdermott ran the fastest time of the day, a 16:32, and in the process beating Northport NY's Kevin Tschirhart, who was eight seconds back. Rock placed five runners within a minute, and their top three in 4th, 5th and 6th, just 16 seconds apart. Eleanor Roosevelt MD ran into NE#2 Bay Shore NY on 9/11 at Penn State, but found southeastern PA more to their liking - barely. Just three points separated them from both West Chester Henderson and Gwynedd Mercy. Henderson took 2nd based on their 6th runner, who finished 36th. Hatboro-Horsham, with two top runners under the weather, finished 4th with 99 points. Kate Vernon staked her claim for the #1 spot on Gwynedd Mercy with a 19:36 on the rain-drenched course. New Monarch Liz Kearnins, who won her appeal on her transfer just a few days ago, finished 5th in 20:14. The Unionville boys have a solid team this season. Colin Leak took control of the race and held off Shalick NJ's Eric Mills by five seconds, clocking 17:06. It was enough to help his team to a 58-69 win over Malvern Prep in the Boys Division II. And in Division I, the two NJ powers Ridgewood and Mainland battled it out, with Ridgewood getting the nod by just two points, 73-75. Hatboro-Horsham was 3rd with 80. Eleanor Roosevelt's Mikias Gelagie went 16:57 for the win. In the Girls Division I race, St. Hubert's placed two girls in the top ten and beat North Penn by three 73-76. Downingtown West's Joanna Horstman ran a 20:15 for the win. In the girls Division II race, Great Valley started with two in the top ten, paced by Kristin Golen's 2nd place 21:35, and won with 56 points. Katie McClernand of Mount St. Joseph's Academy went 21:12 for the victory.

Kate Vernon, Gwynedd, heads into the woods with a lot of company, including Henderson #1 Meghan Durkee. Vernon would win the race. Durkee lead her team to a 2nd place behind Eleanor Roosevelt HS of MD

At about 3/4-mile, Chaminade's Kevin McDermott is pushing the pace. But Council Rock's John Mahoney is nearby.

Brandon Pomerantz, Council Rock, is the first of three Rock runners across the line in 4-5-6 to lead the team to the big win.
