LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sophomore
Neely Spence was named the PSAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by conference officials after a strong weekend at the Bucknell Heptagonal in which Shippensburg defeated host Bucknell to win the scored meet.
Spence was integral to a distance and mid-distance group that thrived on Saturday as Shippensburg bested the host Bison, a squad recently voted to win the Division I Patriot League. The Lady Raiders won the mile, 1K, 3K and 5K - totaling 79 points alone from these four events.
Spence won the mile in 5:04.70, an NCAA provisional mark, took second in the 1,000-meter run behind teammate
Mary Dell, and won the 3,000 meters as Shippensburg finished 1-2-3 in the event. Spence won that event in 10:08.00, a time that ranks second in the PSAC this season.
Shippensburg has a busy weekend on tap. On Friday night, the DMR squad will compete at the Penn State National Invitational. SU will also compete on Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Open and Multi.
