LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior
Mary Dell posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800-meter run on Saturday from KLARC Field House in the 12th Annual Bison Open and Multi as the Lady Raider indoor track and field program posted some solid performances.
Shippensburg went 1-2-3 in the 800-meter run with Dell's mark (2:14.72) leading the way and posting the sixth-fastest mark in Division II this season. Sophomore
Neely Spence finished in 2:17.30 while junior
Emily Dubs was third in 2:18.64.
All four members of Shippensburg's DMR squad that competed yesterday at Penn State were also busy on Saturday. In addition to Dell and Spence, junior
Abby Huber posted a time of 5:06.35.
The fourth member of the group was senior
Shannon Hare, who ran the the 4x400-meter relay with junior
Laura Henzy, junior
Erica Hess and sophomore
Katie Craven. The quartet finished in 3:58.38, four seconds faster than Slippery Rock.
Earlier in the day, Craven won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.83 seconds. Another solid performance in the sprints came from freshman
Caitlin Stuetz, who posted a time of 9.21 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.
In the field, freshman
Megan Breski cleared 10 feet, 10 inches in the pole vault to tie for second place. Sophomore
Lauren Redington was the leading long jumper at 16 feet, 11.25 inches. Junior
Steph Harrison had SU's best shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 3.75 inches and heaved the 35-pound weight a distance of 51 feet, 4.25 inches.
The highlight of the weekend came on Friday night when junior
Rebekah Newhart broke a 12-year-old school record in the pentathlon by totaling 3,200 points to surpass the previous mark set by Jen Hamilton in 1998.
Shippensburg will once again split its roster next weekend and compete in two meets. The Lady Raiders will send one faction to the New Balance Games in New York on Friday and Saturday and another group to East Stroudsburg's DeSchriver Classic on Super Bowl Sunday.
