NEW YORK CITY - The Shippensburg men's distance medley relay squad of sophomore

Kyle Raguz, senior
Josh Neyhart and freshman
Matt Gillette posted a radical time of 9:58.71 that trimmed six seconds off last week's school record pace and almost assuredly guaranteed the team a trip to the NCAA National Championships in March.
The quartet was speeding from the start of the race through the crossing of the finish line on Friday at the New Balance Games. A dominant opening leg by Buck started the record-setting run and an approximate 4:15 split by Gillette helped the Red Raiders finish second in the event to beat Mansfield by 11 seconds and ESU by 14 seconds. At Penn State last weekend, the Red Raiders recorded a time of 10:04.92.
Friday's run is technically a provisional qualifying effort but sits as the third-fastest time in Division II. The top eight teams will be accepted to the national championship meet in March, and any squad that posts a sub-10:00 time is typically guaranteed a spot in the race.
Another milestone went by the wayside on Friday as junior
Matt Gelety became the second Red Raider in the last three weeks to break the school record in the 1,000 meters. Gelety's time was 2:30.25, just less than one full second ahead of Buck's effort from two weeks ago at the Bucknell Heptagonal.
Another strong effort came from freshman
Matthew Terry improved his season-best performance in the long jump with an effort of 22 feet, 9.25 inches (6.94 meters) that ranks fifth in the PSAC.
