02/14 PCL Championships

West Catholic girls set the tone early and won the team championship with 101 points over runner up St. Hubert’s (76) and 3rd place Cardinal O’Hara (75). West Catholic started hot from the opening event, running a PA#1 and US#8 time 1:42.88 to win the 4x200 meter relay (Michelle Davis, Chante Moore, Caela Williams, Jada Steward). Chante Moore then won the 60 meter dash with a PA#4 time of 7.74, and then she led a 1-2-3 West Catholic sweep in the 400 meters with a PA#3 time of 58.11, with Michelle Davis running a PA#5 58.28 for 2nd.  The duo of Davis and Moore then led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 200, with Davis winning in a PA#3 time of 25.34 and Moore running 25.39. Other girls highlights include Anna McCloskey of Cardinal O’Hara throwing a PA#7 39-10 to win the shot put, Kelly Hooven of St. Hubert’s won the long jump with a mark of 17-03.75 and Conwell Egan’s Logan Brenker won the triple jump with a mark of 35-00.25

The boys meet came down to the final event between three teams to crown the team champion, and Cardinal O’Hara’s victory in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:32.97 won them the team championship with 82.5 points over runner up St. Joseph’s Prep (76) and 3rd place Lasalle (75).

The team title was to come down to the final event, the 4x800, but laps were miscounted, resulting in many teams running short. League officials decided that the race would be voided, not only for results, but toward the team score.

Ozzie Brown of West Catholic won four events on the day. He won the 60 meters in a T-PA#5 time of 7.05, the 200 meters in 22.83, the 400 meters in 51.59, and the long jump with a mark of 22-02.25. Tom Kehl of Father Judge won the 3000 meters with a PA#6 time of 8:57.30 and anchored the winning distance medley relay team to a time of 10:58.51.

Chris O’Sullivan won the one mile run with a time of 4:27.79, Kevin Day won the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.75, Beau Whitman of Lasalle (In photo by George Craney) cleared a PA#5 height of 14-05 to win the pole vault. It was a PR for the junior.
