LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sophomore Neely Spence was named the PSAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by conference officials after breaking two all-time PSAC records this past weekend at the New Balance Games held in New York City.

On Friday, Spence broke the 25-year-old conference record in the 5K with a blazing time of 16:13.01. It surpassed the previous PSAC record of 16:17.10 set by West Chester's Julie Bowers in 1985. Additionally, Spence's time becomes the fastest in Division II this season and is an automatic qualifier for nationals.

On Saturday, Spence joined teammates Mary Dell, Emily Dubs and Amanda Raudabaugh on the 4x800-meter relay that also broke a PSAC all-time record. The quartet had a time on a banked track of 9:11.11. The time is incredible on a number of levels. By comparison, it ranks 14 seconds faster than the previous banked track record originally set by Kutztown in 2006. It also broke the non-banked record of 9:13 that was recorded in 1980 by West Chester. Shippensburg's old record, set at the PSAC championships last year, was 9:25.27.

Spence's honor marks the third straight week that Shippensburg has won the track athlete of the week award. Dell won it last week, and Spence was awarded two weeks ago.
