Caudill, Molloy score a dozen in Rock's 79-52 loss to Edinboro

The loss dropped SRU's overall record to 5-18 and its PSAC-Western Division record to 2-8

Freshman guard Bethany Caudill and senior guard Julie Molloy each scored 12 points to lead the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team's effort Saturday afternoon in a 79-52 loss to visiting Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

Molloy also handed out four assists and tied with freshmen guard Alex Beatty and Tynesha Lee for team-high rebound honors with four for The Rock (5-18 overall, 2-8 PSAC-West).

Edinboro (15-8, 6-4), the third-place team in the PSAC-West standings, was led in scoring by senior guard Samantha Reimer, who scored a game-high 22 points. In the process, she became the Fighting Scots' all-time leading scorer with 1851 points in four seasons.

The Rock never led in the game as Edinboro scored the first five and eight of the first nine points in the game.

The Fighting Scots held an 11-point, 22-11 lead, with 11:30 left in the first half and were up by 21 points, 42-21, with 1:45 left in the opening stanza before taking a 42-24 advantage into the intermission.

The Rock trimmed the deficit to 14 points on two occasions in the first four minutes of the second half, but could not get any closer.

The final 27-point difference was Edinboro's largest of the game.

SRU finished the game with a respectable 42% (20-48) efficiency on its field goal attempts, made 25% (2-8) of their 3-point attempts and sank 10 of 20 free throws.

Edinboro shot a hot 54% (31-57) from the field overall after hitting 58% (18-31) of its shots in the first half. The Fighting Scots made 43% (6-14) of their long-range shots and 92% (11-12) of their free throws.

The guests also held a 36-25 rebounding advantage, had less turnovers (19-15) and had a 25-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Rock travels to Lock Haven for a 6 p.m. division game Wednesday before it hosts Clarion and California in back-to-back games Feb. 20 and 24. Those will be the final two home games of the season for the Green and White.
