Weber sets school record at SRU Open

Rachel Weber set a new school record in the weight throw to lead Slippery Rock's dominant performance at the SRU Open Friday night at Morrow Field House

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team dominated the SRU Open Friday night at Morrow Field House. The Rock women emerged with wins in 10 separate events and one new school record.

Rachel Weber topped the highlights on the night when she won the weight throw with a new school record of 15.29 meters (50'02”). She topped the record of 50'1.25” set by Erica Timmons in 1999.

Weber also won the shot put Friday night with a throw of 12.57 meters.

She was joined in the weight throw by Jessica Koerner in second-place at 15.07m and Cassie Carrow in third at 12.80m.

Sandy Kakraba followed Weber in second-place in the shot put with a throw of 11.30m, with Koerner placing third with a toss of 10.68m.

Amanda Seigworth led the sprinters with wins in the 200-meter dash (27.00 seconds) and the 55-meter hurdles (8.63 seconds). She was followed in second-place by Allison Smith in both events. Smith posted a time of 27.28 seconds in the 200m and a mark of 8.74 seconds in the hurdles.

Whitney Hendershot picked up a pair of wins Friday night as well, claiming the top spot in the high jump and the long jump. Her winning mark of 1.65 meters in the high jump is just .02 meters off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.32 meters.

Hendershot was joined in the long jump by Jessica Ferrick in second-place with a leap of 5.27m and Kara Hatchett in third at 5.24m.

Sarah Reppermund joined Hendershot in the high jump, placing third with a clearance of 1.47m. She also tied for the win in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.20m, matching Kelly Fischer for the top spot. Jacquelyn Kerr also cleared the same height, but was awarded third-place on the number of misses.

Tiffany Tedesco picked up a win in the 55-meter dash, posting a time of 7.29 seconds. That mark is just .07 seconds off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. She was joined in third-place by Jayme Stanek in a time of 7.67 seconds.

Kaela Snyder dropped down from her usual 800-meter distance and picked up a win in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 1:00.41. She was joined by Tedesco in second-place at 1:00.47 and Caitlin Hancox in third at 1:02.14.

Tedesco, Smith and Seigworth were joined by Rachel Knapp to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:06.10.

Rounding out the top performances for The Rock Friday night was Ferrick and Kasey Arena, placing second and third in the triple jump. Ferrick landed a jump of 10.49 meters, followed by Arena at 10.26m.

Jen Hansen will be the lone Rock athlete competing tomorrow at the University of Akron. Slippery Rock will be back in action next Saturday at Kent State University.
