Rock drops spring opener, 9-0

The loss to sixth-ranked (Division III) Carnegie Mellon dropped SRU's season record to 3-2

WEXFORD, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost a 9-0 decision Saturday to sixth-ranked (Division III) Carnegie Mellon in the opening match of its 2010 spring season.

The final score did not reflect how "hard fought" the match was, according to Rock head coach Matt Meredith, who cited narrow losses in the three doubles matches as supporting evidence.

The Rock lost the three doubles matches by a total of seven points and also dropped the No. 1 singles match in three sets.

SRU will look to record its first spring win Feb. 27 when it hosts NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rival West Virginia State.
