Former Rock standout Bill Rausch to be honored Saturday

Rausch is the No. 4 all-time leading scorer in Rock men's basketball history

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University Advancement Division and Athletic Department will honor former Rock men's basketball standout Bill Rausch as part of Saturday's doubleheader against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Clarion University in Morrow Field House.

The No. 4 all-time leading scorer in Rock men's basketball history, Rausch will be spotlighted during a pregame reception starting at 1:30 p.m. in Morrow Field House as well as during a halftime ceremony of The Rock's men's basketball game, which is set to tip off at 3 p.m.

Rausch scored 1,507 points during his four-year Rock career (1979-83). He ranks third in career field goals made with 589 and is fourth in career field goal attempts with 1137. He also ranks fourth in both career free throws made (329) and attempted (420) and is sixth in career free throw percentage (78.3%). His 17.3 points per game scoring average currently ranks sixth among Rock men's players, while his 51.8% career efficiency on field goal attempts is the seventh best mark in SRU history.

Rausch's 25.2 points per game scoring average as a senior in 1982-83 is the second highest ever recorded by a Rock men's player, while his 630 points scored that season is the third highest. He ranks third in single-season free throws made (156), fifth in single-season free throws attempted (191) and eighth in single-season free throw percentage (81.6%).

Rausch led The Rock to appearances in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs in both his junior and senior seasons.

Rausch is the third former Rock men's basketball standout to be honored by a special ceremony this winter. All-time leading scorer Myron Brown was spotlighted Nov. 21, while No. 2 all-time scorer and No. 8 all-time rebounder Troy Mild was honored last Saturday (Feb. 13).

The 1972-73 Rock men's basketball team was also honored (Jan. 30) in recognition of being the only SRU team to compete in the NAIA national championship.
