TRACK

The team's leading sprinters are a pair of freshmen twins looking to make an impact at their first conference championship meet. Freshman Dan Speaks is the leading Red Raider in the 55-meter dash, while Nathan Speaks paces the team in the 200-meter dash.

Four Red Raiders have qualified for the 55-meter hurdles, and the team's leader to date is sophomore Tyrek Nelson. Fellow sophomores Chad Drzeweicki, Terrance Topping-Brown and Mark Cover will also be seeking for a place-winning performance.

Sophomore Eric Wolfe is coming off his strongest time in the 400-meter dash and is expected to be the leading Red Raider in the event. Freshman Marcus Line and junior Todd Phillips are also expected to be contributors.

The team has always thrived in the mid-distance and distance events and 2010 is no different. In the 800, sophomore Ed Buck set a school record last weekend with a time of 1:53.26 that ranks second in the PSAC and seventh in Division II. Junior Matt Gelety is also performing very well and sits fifth in the conference.

Shippensburg has six of the top 10 mile runners in the conference and is led by Buck, the second-ranked competitor in the conference. Freshman Matt Gillette is third in the PSAC; sophomore Stephen Schelander is fifth and junior Sean Stetler ranks seventh. Senior Josh Neyhart and junior Ethan Rissell are also top competitors in the mile.

Gillette (second) and Stetler (seventh) are strong runners in the 3K, while Rissell (fourth) and Stetler (ninth) are among the top 10 runners in the 5K. Another athlete to watch is junior Bryan Beegle, who has been regaining his form after recovering from injury.

In relays, Shippensburg has thrived in the 4x800-meter relay and the DMR. SU's 4x800-meter squad has neared the PSAC's all-time record and enters as the top ranked-squad. The DMR is second behind Lock Haven and ranks 10th in Division II. The 4x400-meter relay squad ranks sixth in the PSAC entering this weekend.

FIELD

Senior Donnie Graybill, the overall meet MVP at last year's indoor championships, will be counted upon once again for his success as the team's heptathlete. Graybill won the event last season and once again leads the PSAC and ranks seventh in the PSAC. He also is the PSAC's leading pole vaulter along with East Stroudsburg's Matthew Gallup having cleared 16 feet, 2.75 inches and leads the Red Raiders in the high jump.

Freshman Matthew Terry has emerged as one of Shippensburg's leading jumpers. He ranks second in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. Three other freshmen, Cody DeBoer, Elijah Trusty and Kyle Dickinson will also be among the Red Raiders vying for strong showings this weekend.

In throws, three Red Raiders will be seeking to gain some points. Sophomore Steve D'Arcy is the team's leader in the shot put and is ranked fourth in the conference. Junior Tappah Dinnall ranks in the top 10 for both the shot put and the weight throw, while sophomore Travis Nye is hoping to reach the podium as well.

The competition this weekend figures to be rather incredible, as seven PSAC teams are ranked among the top nine schools in the most recent data provided by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Shippensburg, ranked second in the region, is not ranked in the national poll.

Lock Haven and East Stroudsburg are two perennial favorites and rank third and fourth in the region. The Bald Eagles boast their typical legion of distance runners and currently rank atop the league in the mile, 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and the DMR. The Warriors boast an extremely deep squad in addition to a pair of top-ranked field athletes in Gallup and Paul Wagner (weight throw).

Indiana (Pa.), ranked fifth in the region, is the only PSAC team ranked nationally and sits 11th in Division II. The Crimson Hawks boast the top times in the 55, 200 and 400-meter events while also boasting national field competitors in Leander Toney (high jump) and Nafee Harris (long jump).

Added competition will come from Slippery Rock, Kutztown and Mansfield, squads ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in the Atlantic Region.
