Rock lands eight on All-Academic team

Six women's and two men's cross country runners have been named to USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS – Six members of the Slippery Rock University women's cross country team and two members of the men's squad have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II All-Academic team.

In order to be eligible for All-Academic honors, an individual must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and finish in the top-30% of all finishers at the NCAA Regional Championship meet or in the top 50% at the NCAA National Championships.

The Rock women's team placed sixth student-athletes on the All-Academic team, which is the second-highest number of any Division II institution and the most of all Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference institutions.

The PSAC led all conferences with 43 females and 27 males named to the All-Academic team.

Earning the honor for SRU is Crystal Burnick, Caitlin Hancox, Jen Harpp, Abby Michaelian, Sarah Thompson and Becky Younger.

The Rock women's cross country team placed third at the PSAC Championships and fourth at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Harpp led the way, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors before becoming the highest-finishing SRU female runner in the program's history at the National Championships, earning All-America honors.

Burnick and Michaelian each earned All-PSAC honors, while Burnick added an All-Region honor with a 10th-place finish.

The Rock men's cross county team is represented by Brian Ulrich and Eric Geddis on the All-Academic squad.

SRU placed seventh at both the PSAC and Regional meets, with Ulrich leading the way. He placed 10th at the Regional Championships to earn All-Region honors.

Geddis was the third Rock finisher at the Regional meet, placing 55th.
