Snowy conditions wipe out Rock baseball, tennis contests

The baseball doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at West Virginia State have been cancelled, while the women's tennis home match against WVSU has been postponed until April 15

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Snowy weather conditions in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia have caused the cancellation of Slippery Rock University baseball games and the postponement of a women's tennis home match scheduled for this weekend.

The Rock's baseball doubleheaders at West Virginia State University scheduled for Saturday and Sunday have been cancelled and most likely will not be rescheduled, according to Rock head coach Jeff Messer.

SRU's home women's tennis match against West Virginia State, scheduled for Saturday at Pure Athletics in Wexford, has been postponed and rescheduled for April 15 (1:30 p.m. start) on the SRU outdoor courts.

The Rock baseball team, which split a season-opening four-game series last weekend against Tiffin, is idle until March 5 when it will meet Rockhurst (Illinois) in Lakeland, Fla. That will be the first of eight games the Green and White will play in the Sunshine State as part of a 12-game southern trip during SRU's spring break.

The Rock hardball team's first home game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, when Washington Adventist (formerly Columbia Union) will invade Jack Critchfield Park for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

The Rock women's tennis team will put its 4-2 record on the line in its next match, which will be played Thursday, March 4, at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. That will be the first of six matches SRU will play as part of its spring-break trip south.

SRU's next home tennis match is scheduled for March 27, when West Virginia Wesleyan will come to town for a 1 p.m. match on SRU's outdoor courts.
