EDINBORO, Pa.
-- Jen Hansen claimed her fourth individual title in the pole vault Saturday to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team into first-place in the team standings after the first day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted at Edinboro's Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Recreation Dome.

Hansen, who sat out last season with an injury, returned to her winning ways at the conference meet, claiming the fourth PSAC indoor title of her career with a clearance of 3.70 meters.

The Rock pole vaulters picked up 22 points for the team, with Kelly Fischer placing fourth at 3.40m, Sarah Reppermund fifth at 3.20m and Jacquelyn Kerr sixth at 3.10m.

Slippery Rock, which is the three-time defending PSAC champion, finished the first day of competition with a team score of 67.50 points, leading Shippensburg by 19 points (48.50). Indiana (Pa.) sits third at 31 points, followed by Kutztown (28) and Lock Haven (23).

The Rock's distance medley relay team of Jen Harpp, Abby Michaelian, Caitlin Hancox and Kaela Snyder placed second with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 12:15.84.

The same four women combined to place second in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:31.72.

Kim Stitt placed third in the pentathlon with a season-best score of 3,346 points, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying score. She was joined by Kelly Bruder, who tied for fifth-place with a score of 3,259 points.

Kara Hatchett posted a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the long jump, placing fourth with a leap of 5.58 meters. She was joined by Jessica Ferrick in fifth-place with a leap of 5.49 meters.

Crystal Burnick placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:44.10, which is an NCAA provisional mark. Each of the top-six finishers in the 5,000m posted NCAA provisional times.

Jessica Koerner and Rachel Weber each scored points for SRU in the weight throw, with Koerner placing fifth with a throw of 15.08 meters and Weber placing sixth at 15.05m.

Many of the events contested on the first day of the championships were qualification rounds for Sunday's finals.

The Rock's sprinters and hurdlers performed well in the trials, led by Tiffany Tedesco, Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith.

Tedesco cruised through the preliminary rounds in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, posting the second-best time in the 60m at 7.78 seconds and the top-time in the 200m at 25.33 seconds, which would break her own school record if it weren't for an oversized track conversion.

She was joined in the 200m by Smith and Tayler McCracken, who each qualified for the finals in the event. Smith posted a season-best time of 25.99 seconds with McCracken crossing the line in 26.31 seconds.

Seigworth posted the second-best qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.11 seconds, followed by Smith with the third-fastest time at 9.15 seconds.

The PSAC championships continue Sunday with the conclusion of all remaining finals. Complete results and a recap of the action will be posted at www.RockAthletics.com at the conclusion of the meet.
