LAKELAND, Fla. --
The Slippery Rock University baseball team opened its annual spring-break trip to Florida with a doubleheader split vs. Rockhurst (Ill.).

The Rock won Game 1 by a 3-2 score but blew a 5-1 lead and fell by a 15-6 score in Game 2.

The split gave the Green and White a 3-3 record this spring as it prepares for a doubleheader Saturday against perennial national power Ashland (Ohio) University.

Junior right-hander George Hebert struck out seven and walked three in six and two-thirds innings to pick up the Game 1 win, his second in as many starts this spring. Junior center fielder Matt Howard had a pair of hits for The Rock, while junior catcher Derek DiRuscia and senior second baseman Billy Messer each smacked a double.

Junior outfielder Mitchell Monas and freshman third baseman Jamison Walck each had a pair of hits for SRU in Game 2. One of Monas' hits was a double, while DiRuscia clobbered a two-run home run, his second roundtripper of the season.
