CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Slippery Rock University softball team started its 2010 season with a 17-0, 5-0 sweep Friday of hosting Johnson C. Smith.
The sweep gave SRU a 2-0 start for the third straight season.
In the first game, junior
Lindsey Grace tossed a three-hit, four-inning shutout. Offfensively, freshman
Jenna Geibel crushed a triple and picked up an RBI as part of a six-run first inning for The Rock. Sophomore
Kirsten Brant added an RBI triple in the second inning, while senior
Jordan Zeunges stole six bases.
Zeunges finished the day with an 8-for-8 effort in stolen base attempts.
In the second game,
Shaylee Ianno tossed a two-hit shutout.
Shardea Croes nailed a triple to left center in the third inning to account for The Rock's first hit of the game, but was left stranded.
Jessica Kortz and Geibel each had a double to lead The Rock's second-game offensive effort.
The Rock returns to action Saturday when it will open competition in the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla., with single games against Ashland and Tiffin.
