DUE WEST, S.C. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team got goals from 11 different players en route to a 22-2 victory over Erskine College Saturday.

The Rock (2-0) offensive attack proved too potent for Erskine (0-9), tallying 47 total shots and holding the Flying Fleet to just seven shots.

Slippery Rock saw multiple-goal games from six different players and multiple-point efforts from eight different players. Three freshmen tallied their first collegiate goals and four players finished with at least a hat trick.

Casey Quinn led the way with four goals and one assist. Quinn also stood out defensively, causing a team-high four turnovers in the game.

Amy Halls matched Quinn with five points on three goals and two assists, while also leading the team with three draw controls.

Katie Roof and Samantha Eddy each finished with three goals and one assist, while Eddy matched Halls with three draw controls.

Ariel Knox scored two goals and handed out two assists, marking the first multiple-point effort of her career. Alexis Slutsky also scored two goals and handed out one assist.

Emma VanDenburg finished with one goal and one assist, while matching Quinn with four caused turnovers.

Also scoring one goal and adding an assist for her first collegiate points was Lauren Carberry. Fellow freshmen Hannah Bonfiglio and Dakota McCoy each found the back of the net once for their first collegiate goals and Alison Rusnak finished the scoring with one goal.

Ashley Winkelspecht was credited with the win in goal after allowing two goals and recording two saves in the first half. Danielle Gonzales played the second half, allowing no goals and recording one save.

The Rock jumped in front early when Rusnak scored just 28 seconds into the game. Halls added a goal in the second minute and after 10 minutes of play, SRU led 5-0.

Erskine scored its first goal of the game with 19:58 to play in the first half and scored again with 11:43 to play in the half, but The Rock closed the half with five goals in the final 16:12 to lead 10-2 at the break.

Slippery Rock kept the pressure on at the start of the second half when VanDenburg scored in the first minute. The Rock found the net five times in the first 10 minutes of the half to put the game out of reach.

With wins in its first two games, Slippery Rock has opened the 2010 season with the best record since the 1989 team opened with three wins.

Since its first season of competition in 1976, Rock teams have opened the season with two wins just six times (1976, 83, 86, 88, 89, 2010).

The Rock will return home to open the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division schedule Wednesday when Indiana (Pa.) comes to town. First draw is set for 7 p.m. at Thompson Stadium.


Note: Halls' three goals, combined with her nine goals in Thursday's win over Converse, bring her career tally to 69, moving her into fourth on the all-time ledger at SRU. Patty McPartland sits third with 76 goals.
