Amanda Seigworth and
Allison Smith each posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks in their respective events to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team in the outdoor season opener at Coastal Carolina University Saturday.
Smith won the 400-meter hurdles with a provisional mark of 1:02.27 and was followed by Seigworth in third-place at 1:03.85, narrowly off the qualifying standard.
Seigworth hit her qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles, placing third in 14.54 seconds. Smith followed in eigth-place with a time of 14.90 seconds.
Smith was joined by
Crystal Burnick in winning her respective event, as Burnick crossed the line first in the 5,000-meter run to lead The Rock distance crew. Burnick topped the field with a time of 17:49.40.
Tiffany Tedesco picked up a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the sprinters. Tedesco placed fourth in the 200-meter dash at 25.00 seconds and finished ninth in the 100-meter dash in 12.29 seconds.
Smith, Seigworth and Tedesco were joined by
Kaela Snyder to place second in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 3:55.61.
Snyder also placed seventh in the 800-meter run to lead the mid-distance runners, crossing the line in 2:20.05. She was joined by
Caitlin Hancox in ninth-place at 2:20.39.
Jen Pace placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.70.
Caitlin Lombardo placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 38.16 meters and
Angela Schroeder finished sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.20m to lead the field event athletes.
Saturday's Coastal Carolina Invitational marked the first meet of the season for The Rock outdoor teams, as the indoor season officially came to a close at the national championships, held Saturday as well.
SRU is back in action in two weeks with select athletes competing in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and others competing at the Western Pennsylvania Championships at California (Pa.).
