Chris Warning and
Dylan Klein each placed second in their respective events to lead the Slippery Rock University men's track and field team at the first meet of the outdoor season Saturday at Coastal Carolina University.
Warning placed second in the discus with a throw of 48.75 meters, just narrowly missing the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 48.80m.
Klein placed second in the 5,000-meter run to lead the distance runners, crossing the line in 15:18.22.
Kevin Jewel placed fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.26 seconds and
Jason Jamieson placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1”57.15.
Dan Hedglin placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 seconds and
Ethan Geisler took 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.72 seconds to lead the hurdlers.
Alex Koksal placed 12th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:45.64 and
Eric Geddis finished 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:15.82.
Joel Peters claimed a 13th-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.42 meters and
Shawn Vanderbrook placed 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.69m to round out the top field event performances.
Saturday's Coastal Carolina Invitational marked the first meet of the season for The Rock outdoor teams, as the indoor season officially came to a close at the national championships, held Saturday as well.
SRU is back in action in two weeks with select athletes competing in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and others competing at the Western Pennsylvania Championships at California (Pa.).
