SALEM, VA.—The Slippery Rock University softball team fell 7-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan and 9-2 against West Virginia State Friday at the Salem Invitational.
Lindsey Grace picked up the loss on the mound in the opening game against West Virginia Wesleyan after throwing three innings and striking out four. All seven runs were scored in the first three innings, four of which were earned.
The Rock committed six errors in the game and finished with three hits, compared to West Virginia Wesleyan's eight hits and no errors.
Shauna Walker pitched a complete game against West Virginia State, earning her first loss of the season. Walker allowed 13 hits and struck out two batters.
In the first inning,
Shardea Croes reached second on a double and then stole third.
Jessica Kortz hit a sac fly to left field to score Croes to plate SRU's first run of the game.
In the second inning,
Kirsten Brant was walked and scored from first on a Jenna Giebel triple.
Croes and Giebel were both 2-3 for the game to lead SRU at the plate.
Slippery Rock drops to 5-5 overall and will continue play at the Salem Invitational with games against Davis and Elkins a 1 p.m. and Ohio Valley at 7 p.m. Saturday.
