Jessica Kortz hit two home runs and a grand slam in the two wins for The Rock on Saturday.

SALEM, VA.—The Slippery Rock University softball team rebounded in day two of the Salem Invitational with two wins on Saturday taking down Davis and Elkins 8-0 in five innings and a 17-5 win against Ohio Valley in five innings. 

The Rock improves their record to 7-5 overall. 

Sophomore Shaylee Ianno picked up the win against Davis and Elkins as she went the distance striking out four and allowing only one hit. 

Jessica Kortz and Jenna Geibel opened up the offense for The Rock. In the second inning Kortz nailed a two-run home run. Kortz finished the game 2-2 scoring twice and adding four RBIs. 

In the third inning, Geibel smacked a solo homerun. Geibel also was 2-2 on the day and scored twice. 

Against Ohio Valley Shauna Walker picked up the win pitching in four innings striking out one while allowing six hits, three walks and five earned runs. 

Kortz picked up where she left off in the first game going 2-2 with a three-run home run in the second inning and a grand slam in the fourth inning. 

Geibel went 1-2 with a two-run home run in the second inning, and Brittany Jones went 3-3 nailing two doubles and a single in the game. Jones also recorded two RBIs. 

Sheree Horvath also was a perfect 2-2 in the game, and scored four runs. 

All batters but one recorded a hit for The Rock. 

The Rock will finish up the Salem Invitational on Sunday facing Virginia State at 1 pm. After that SRU will play hosts to Wheeling Jesuit for a double header on March 23. Game time is set for 3 pm.
