Rock shuts out Virginia State, 14-0

Jessica Kortz went 4-4 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead The Rock (8-5) to a 14-0 win over Virginia State Sunday.

SALEM, VA.—The Slippery Rock University softball team finished the final day of the Salem Invitational with a 14-0 win over Virginia State in five innings. 

The Rock now holds an 8-5 overall record. This is the sixth time so far this season that The Rock has shut out an opponent. SRU is also on a three-game winning streak. 

Lindsey Grace picked up the win pitching in three innings while striking out three and allowing one hit. Shaylee Ianno pitched in the final two innings striking out five and not allowing a hit. 

Jessica Kortz continued her offensive dominance going 4-4 in the game, with two home runs and five RBIs. Kortz smacked a two-run home run in the first, and then a solo strike in the fifth. 

Rachel Henderson also went 4-4 with three singles and a double. Henderson also recorded an RBI. 

Shardea Croes and Sheree Horvath both went 3-4 on the day, with Croes compiling three RBIs. 

Slippery Rock will host Wheeling Jesuit on Tuesday the SRU Softball Complex for a double header. The games are scheduled to start at 3 pm.
