Alexander Mazzeo and Lauren Kosek earned last weeks performer of the week honors. Alex won the PIAA District 1 Championships last weekend in a very impressive time of 14:58 just out kicking his own twin brother Nick.

Lauren won the PIAA District IV Championships in dominant fashion. She ran 18:00 en route to her 43 second victory over a loaded AA district 4 field.

This Past weekend was the state championships for the athletes that compete in the PIAA which is most of the state. With that being so we will only be nominating 3 on each side being the winners of the A AA and AAA races.

This Weeks Boys Candidates:

(Listed in a random order)

Michael Fritz (Northwest Area 04) - Michael won the A boys race at the PIAA State Championships with an insane time of 15:59 on the very hilly Hershey course. Fritz won by 6 seconds over some very steep competition in the single A race.

Jonah Montagnese (Quaker Valley 07) - Jonah was the heavy favorite going into the AA race at states this past weekend and he won the race by 10 seconds with an FAT time of 16:00 over the very dangerous AA field. Montagnese was trailing with 1k to go in the race to Tyce Shaner and ultimately walked him down to win his first XC state title.

Travis Furmanski (Cedar Crest 03) - Travis was not in the talks to come out with a state title going into the race and was ultimately an underdog. He came out with the fastest time of the day running 15:34 on the insanely hard Hershey course to win his first state title. Furmanski won by 5 seconds over a very deep AAA field with the defending state champ and state runner up in the race.

This Weeks Girls Candidates:

(Listed in a random order)

Maggie Jewell (Mercer Area 10) - Maggie won the A girls race at the PIAA State Championships in a time of 19:27 leading the race wire to wire. Jewell took down the single A girls field by 13 seconds and ran a time that would have earned her a medal in any of the 3 girls races.

Virginia Kraus (Saucon Valley 11) - Virginia dominated the AA girls field completing her 4 peat of state titles. That is the first time anyone in state history has won an XC state title every year they have been in High school. Kraus saved her best performance for last breaking the course record en route to her 31 second victory over a loaded AA field. She ran 17:48 to win.

Madelyn McCartney (Emmaus 11) - Madelyn won the AAA State title in a shocker taking down a very talented AAA field. McCartney ran 18:17 en route to her 10 second victory.
