Eddy's career-day leads SRU over Lake Erie, 22-10

The Rock lacrosse team posted 52 total shots en route to defeating Lake Erie 22-10 in a non-conference game Thursday at Thompson Stadium

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team unleashed a program-best 52 total shots en route to a 22-10 non-conference win over Lake Erie College Thursday night at Thompson Stadium.

The Rock (5-6 overall) proved to be too much for the Storm (3-2 overall), opening up a 5-0 lead early in the contest and never looking back.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 52-21 in total shots, 42-19 in shots on goal, 21-13 in draw controls and 42-27 in ground balls.

Samantha Eddy led the way for SRU with a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists. She also had three ground balls and two draw controls.

Katie Roof finished the game with six points on three goals and three assists, while also adding three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Amy Halls and Ariel Knox each scored three goals and had one assist, while Knox added five ground balls and Halls picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Emma VanDenburg scored two goals and handed out three assists to go along with a team-high six draw controls.

Hannah Bonfiglio and Dakota McCoy each had two-points on the night, with Bonfiglio scoring two goals and McCoy handing out two assists.

Caitlin Cross scored her first collegiate goal to join Jami Meirick, and Lauren Carberry with one marker each.

Brianne Dishong led the defensive effort with six ground balls and five caused turnovers. Alexis Slutsky also picked up six ground balls.

Ashley Winkelspecht earned the win in goal after allowing 10 goals and recording nine saves.

Lake Erie was led by a five-goal performance from Meredith Howe. Brittany Rubuano scored two goals and Caitlin Malay picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

Brittanie Johnson took the loss in goal, allowing 22 goals and recording 20 saves.

The Rock will remain home for the next two games, hosting Bloomsburg Saturday at 5 p.m. in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-crossover contest and hosting Edinboro in a PSAC-West showdown Monday night at 7 p.m.
