Rock men dominate SRU Invitational

The Rock men's track and field team picked up wins in 12 events Saturday at the SRU Invitational.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team picked up wins in 12 different events Saturday at the SRU Invitational at the Lennox Track at Thompson Stadium.

James Sims led the way for the sprinters with a win in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 49.48 seconds.

Sims was joined by Ethan Geisler, Mason McLaughlin and Dan Hedglin en route to winning the 4x400-meter relay with a season-best time of 3:20.15.

Hedglin also picked up an individual win in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.72 seconds. Geisler was third in the 110m hurdles and second in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.08 seconds.

Jason Jamieson picked up the win in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.22, while Kevin Jewel cruised to a win in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:10.09 to lead the mid-distance runners.

Matt Mumford led the distance runners with a win in the 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 16:01.08.

The Rock dominated the field events, with wins in six events.

Brady Wert won the high jump with a clearance of 1.85 meters, while Jimmy Schneider picked up the win in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.41m.

Shawn Vanderbrook was a double-winner in the horizontal jumps, winning the long jump with a leap of 6.06 meters and the triple jump with a leap of 12.77m.

Chris Warning and Joel Peters led the throwers with wins in the discus and the hammer. Warning topped the field in the disc with a throw of 47.32 meters and Peters won the hammer with a toss of 51.46m.

The Rock will send its multi-event athletes to compete in the decathlon Wednesday and Thursday at Kutztown, while the remainder of the team will return to action next Saturday at the IUP Invitational in Indiana (Pa.).
