Rock falls 20-7 to Bloomsburg

The Rock women's lacrosse team fell 20-7 to Bloomsburg in a PSAC crossover match Saturday at Thompson Stadium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Bloomsburg jumped out to a 10-goal halftime lead and went on to defeat the Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team 20-7 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover contest Saturday at Thompson Stadium.

Trailing 2-1 after four minutes of play, The Huskies (9-4 overall) used a stretch of six consecutive draw controls to score eight unanswered goals to take a 9-2 lead. Emma VanDenburg found the back of the net for Slippery Rock (5-7 overall) with just over 14 minutes left in the first half to stop Bloomsburg's scoring run, but the Huskies would score four more goals to close the half with a 13-3 advantage.

VanDenburg opened the scoring in the second half with her second of the game, but Bloomsburg scored five straight goals over the next 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.

Amy Halls led the way for SRU with four goals and one assist. VanDenburg finished with two goals and one assist and Samantha Eddy scored one goal to cap the scoring for The Rock. Halls also finished with three draw controls, while VanDenburg picked up three ground balls.

Cassidy Schemm led SRU with four draw controls and Katie Roof finished with a team-high three caused turnovers.

Ashley Winkelspecht took the loss in goal, allowing 20 goals and recording 10 saves.

Bloomsburg was led by six-point efforts from Allie Kakareka (six goals, two assists) and Kim Springman (two goals, four assists). Samantha Mazzie added three goals and Ashley Bowers finished with a game-high six draw controls.

Shelby Iezzi earned the win in goal, allowing three goals and recording three saves in the first half. Devyn Mulholland allowed four goals and recorded two saves in the second half.

For the game, Bloomsburg finished with advantages of 42-16 in total shots, 24-12 in ground balls and 17-11 in draw controls while clearing on a perfect 15-of-15 attempts. Slippery Rock cleared successfully on 11-of-18 attempts.

The Rock remains home and returns to PSAC-West competition Monday when Edinboro travels to Thompson Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
