Box Score

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team used a 6-1 rally late in the second half en route to earning a 12-10 non-conference win over Seton Hill on a frigid Saturday evening at Thompson Stadium.

Fighting temperatures in the 30s and a driving mix of rain and snow at times, The Rock (7-8) picked up its seventh win of the season, improving on the program's best record since returning to the varsity level in 2007.

The seven wins is the most since the 1989 team finished with an 8-2 record and marks just the seventh time in the history of the program that the team has posted seven wins.

Seton Hill (7-4) scored the first goal of the game just 1:31 in and added a three goal rally in the middle of the first half to open up a 4-2 lead just under midway through the period. Back-to-back goals by Ariel Knox and Casey Quinn tied the game at 4-4 and each team found the net once more to send the game to intermission tied at 5-5.

The Griffins jumped back out to a two goal lead after scoring the first two markers of the second half in the third and seventh minutes. Quinn scored for SRU just 13 seconds after Seton Hill took a 7-5 lead, cutting the deficit to one, but the Griffins answered back in the 12th minute to regain the two goal edge.

Samantha Eddy scored back-to-back goals in a stretch of 11 seconds to tie the game at 8-8 with 18:14 to play and Quinn put Slippery Rock back on top with 13:38 to play.

Seton Hill answered back to tie the game at 9-9 with just under 13 minutes to play, but another three goal run by SRU that included two goals from Quinn and one from Amy Halls put The Rock up 12-9 with 7:31 to play. The Griffins would add one final goal with just under five minutes to play, but The Rock defense stood its ground to seal the 12-10 win.

Quinn led The Rock with a season-best performance on the day, scoring six goals on seven shots and picking up a team-high four draw controls and three caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls.

Halls and Eddy each finished with two goals and one assist, while Halls matched Quinn with four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Emma Vandenburg scored one goal and handed out one assist to go along with a team-high five ground balls, while Knox scored one goal and Dakota McCoy handed out one assist to cap the scoring.

Cassidy Schemm finished with three caused turnovers and three draw controls to lead the defensive unit.

Ashley Winkelspecht picked up the win in goal, allowing 10 goals and recording 10 saves. She also finished the game with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Seton Hill was led by three-goal efforts from Morgan Cain and Amanda Malkowski, while Rachel Hilbert added two goals.

Julie Woodburn took the loss in goal, allowing 12 goals and recording eight saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with a slim, 27-26 advantage in total shots, while Seton Hill edged The Rock 30-28 in ground balls. SRU picked up 14 draw controls to the Griffins' 10 and cleared successfully on 13-of-23 attempts. Seton Hill cleared successfully on 15-of-23 attempts.

Saturday marked the final non-conference game of the season for SRU, which will face two nationally ranked opponents to close the season. The Rock will travel to No. 3 Lock Haven April 21 for a 4 p.m. match and will host No. 9 Gannon in the final game of the season, next Saturday, April 24 at Thompson Stadium. First draw is set for 1 p.m. in that match.

Notes: Quinn's six goals give her 65 career goals and move her into sixth on the career scoring ledger at SRU … Halls now has 48 goals on the season and 105 career goals, just two goals shy of second and seven goals shy of the all-time record … Quinn and Halls are the first duo of Rock players in the program's history to post consecutive seasons of 30-plus goals each … the only other duo to accomplish 30-plus goals in a single-season was Regina Lynch and April Ennis, who each scored 40 in 1989.
