PHILADELPHIA – Two Lady Raiders improved their school records with NCAA automatic-qualifying times in their respective events on Thursday evening from the 2010 Penn Relays at the University of Philadelphia's Franklin Field as the Shippensburg University women's outdoor track and field team was well represented at the historic meet.

Sophomore Neely Spence finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 16:13.34, trailing runners from Stony Brook, Villanova and George Washington. Spence, still battling cold symptoms, posted the third-fastest time in Division II and improved her own school record in the event by 22 seconds.

Senior Mary Dell finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase behind runners from Indiana, Oregon and Florida with a time of 10:26.90. It ties the fastest time in Division II this season set just seven days ago by Western State's Hillory Davis. It is just the second time in her collegiate career that Dell has run the 3,000-meter steeplechase and her Thursday-night performance trimmed 12 seconds off her own school record.

Junior Abby Huber finished 14th in the 3,000-meter run with a new personal-record time of 9:55.30. It is the second-fastest time in the PSAC this season, only behind Spence. Thursday night's run is a 17-second improvement from her time at Millersville earlier this season.

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Erica Hess, senior Shannon Hare, sophomore Katie Craven and sophomore Amanda Raudabaugh posted a time of 3:55.54. The relay squad had to deal with adverse weather conditions during its run, particularly strong winds and a thunderstorm along the backstretch.

Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday with its annual home meet, the sixth annual Paul Kaiser Classic. Competition begins from Seth Grove Stadium at 9:45 a.m.
