Hurdlers lead Rock at Ashland

Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith led The Rock women's track and field team Saturday at the Ashland Alumni Invitational.

ASHLAND, Ohio
– The Slippery Rock University women's outdoor track and field team excelled Saturday at the Ashland Alumni Invitational.

The Rock was led by its sprinters and hurdlers, namely Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith.

Seigworth won the 400-meter hurdles with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:00.03. That mark is the sixth-best in the NCAA this season. Smith placed second in the event, also running a personal best and an NCAA automatic mark with a time of 1:00.42, the seventh-best time in the nation this season.

Seigworth and Smith also excelled in the 100-meter hurdles, with Seigworth placing third in 14.43 seconds and Smith placing fourth in 14.54 seconds, both of which are NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

Seigwoth and Smith also excelled in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. The duo was joined by Tiffany Tedesco and Jayme Stanek in the 4x100m, placing second with a season-best time of 48.16 seconds.

Tedesco, Seigworth and Smith were joined by Kaela Snyder in the 4x400m, placing second in 3:52.70.

Tedesco picked up an individual win in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.18 seconds. She also placed second in the 200-meter dash in 25.16 seconds.

Snyder was joined in the 800-meter run by Caitlin Hancox, who finished fourth with a season-best time of 2:16.09. Snyder followed in fourth in a time of 2:16.60, also a season-best for her.

Laura Berry led the distance runners and capped the top track performances with a third-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 18:26.07.

Jen Hansen led the field event athletes with a second-place showing in the pole vault, clearing 3.90 meters, her best mark of the season and nearly an NCAA automatic qualifier (3.95m).

Kim Stitt was equally impressive in the field events, winning the triple jump with a season-best mark of 11.96 meters, improving on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Kara Hatchett placed second in the event with a leap of 10.77 meters and Jessica Ferrick finished third to complete the SRU sweep with a leap of 10.40m.

Caitlin Lombardo led the throwers with a third-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 35.68 meters. She was joined by Stitt in fourth-place with an equal throw of 35.68 meters.

The Rock is back in action next Saturday, May 1, at the Lock Haven Invitational.
