ASHLAND, Ohio – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team saw three NCAA Division II provisional qualifying performances Saturday at the Ashland Alumni Invitational.
The Rock was led by a trio of outstanding performances from its 800-meter runners, led by
Kevin Jewel. Jewel won the event with a provisional qualifier of 1:52.00. He was followed in fourth-place by
Phil Rector in a time of 1:53.02, just off the provisional qualifier of 1:53.00.
Jason Jamieson placed fifth, narrowly missing the provisional mark with a time of 1:54.08
The throwers also shined at the Ashland meet, led by
Chris Warning and
Joel Peters.
Warning placed fourth in the discus throw with a season-best mark of 51.19 meters, improving on his NCAA provisional mark.
Peters finished fifth in the hammer throw with a personal best of 54.58 meters, also an NCAA provisional qualifier.
The Rock men picked up a win in the 1,500-meter run when
Ethan Isoldi crossed the line first, finishing in 4:02.58. He was followed in second by
Dylan Klein in a time of 4:03.17.
James Sims led the sprinters with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, posting a season-best time of 48.87 seconds.
Jimmy Schneider placed third in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.46 meters and
Shawn Vanderbrook finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.35m.
The Rock is back in action next Saturday, May 1, at the Lock Haven Invitational.
