Rock trio earns All-PSAC-West honors

Dunja Drmac, Laura Handy and Sarah Lynch were all named to All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division status in voting by the division's head coaches

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University's women's tennis trio of senior Laura Handy and sophomores Dunja Drmac and Sarah Lynch were named Tuesday as All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division performers in voting by the division's head coaches.

Handy, a native of Pittsburgh and graduate of Upper St. Clair High School, was honored as both a singles and doubles player and earned All-PSAC-West honors for the third consecutive season.

Drmac, who was honored as a s doubles player, and Lynch, a singles selection, were each afforded all-conference honors in their first season with The Rock.

Drmac, who hails from Split, Croatia, and is a graduate of Long Island City High School in New York, joined The Rock prior to the start of the fall portion of the 2009-10 season via transfer from Division II Limestone College in South Carolina.

Lynch, a Gibsonia native and Pine Richland High School graduate, joined The Rock program at the end of the fall semester as a transfer student from Division I Youngstown State University.

The trio of all-conference performers have led The Rock to a 19-5 overall record this season, a No. 44 national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and runner-up honors in both the PSAC-West regular-season and PSAC tournament competitions.

The Rock has locked up an NCAA tournament berth and anxiously awaits word Wednesday night on its bid to host one of the first- and second-round competitions in the national championships.

The NCAA first- and second-round matches will be held May 6-8.

Handy currently owns an 18-7 record as The Rock's No. 1 singles player and is 20-8 in doubles competition this season. She and Drmac are 19-5 as SRU's No. 1 doubles team.

In four seasons at SRU. Handy has compiled a 164-57 career record, which ranks as the third highest win total in school history.

Drmac has compiled a 19-4 record as The Rock's No. 3 singles player and owns a 21-7 overall doubles record in her only season with the Green and White.

Lynch is 18-1 as SRU's No. 2 singles player and owns a 15-4 record in doubles matches.
