LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's track and field team swept this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference weekly honors with
Kevin Jewel being named the Track Athlete of the Week and
Chris Warning taking home the Field Athlete of the Week.
Jewel dominated the field at the Ashland Alumni Invitational in the 800-meter run, winning the event with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:52.00. That mark is the best in the PSAC by over a full second, ahead of teammate
Phil Rector at 1:53.02. Jewel is the only PSAC runner to reach a qualifying time in the 800 this season and ranks 11th in the nation with that mark.
Warning continues to increase his dominance over the PSAC in the discus. He placed fourth in the event at the Ashland Alumni Invitational with a season-best throw of 51.19 meters (167'11”). That throw is the best in the PSAC by nearly 10 feet with second-best at 158'0”. Warning is the only PSAC thrower to reach a qualifier in the discus and ranks 15th in the nation with that mark.
Jewel and Warning picking up the conference's weekly honors in the same week marks the first time this season that Slippery Rock has swept the weekly awards.
Amanda Seigworth took home the Female Track Athlete of the Week honor to nearly complete a sweep for SRU.
The Rock track and field team will travel to Lock Haven this Saturday.
