Entwistle to be inducted into CWPA Hall of Fame

Former water polo standout Leslie Entwistle will become the seventh former SRU player or coach to be inducted into the Collegiate Water Polo Association Hall of Fame at a ceremony Friday night.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Former Slippery Rock University water polo standout Leslie Entwistle will be inducted into the Collegiate Water Polo Association Hall of Fame Friday night as part of the 2010 Women's Eastern Championship, hosted by the University of Maryland.

Entwistle will be the 17th individual inducted into the Hall of Fame and will be the seventh Slippery Rock player or coach to be enshrined, joining Dr. Richard Hunkler (inducted in 2002), Lynn Kachmarik (2003), John Barrett (2004), Sue Kolczak (2005), Robbie Bova (2006) and Diane Stein Swigart (2009).

No other institution in the nation has more former players and coaches in the Hall of Fame than Slippery Rock.

Entwistle was a seven-time All-American at Slippery Rock, earning four consecutive honors in swimming (1976-80) and picking up three accolades for water polo (1977-80). She helped lead The Rock to second-place finishes in the National Collegiate Championship twice during the final three seasons of her career.

Entwistle made the first-ever Women's National Team and competed in the 1978 World Aquatic Games in West Berlin, Germany. She was named to the National Team twice more, competing in the first-ever World Cup in Fresno, Calif. in 1979 and playing in the 1981 World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Following her playing career, Entwistle moved into the coaching realm of the sport in the early 1980s, a passion she continues to this day.

Since 2003, Entwiste has been the coach of the highly successful youth teams at the Naval Academy Aquatic Club in Annapolis, Md., where she has led many teams to the National Championships, Junior Olympics and the Speedo Cup.
