NEW ORLEANS –
The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track and field program is currently ranked No. 10 in Division II while both the men's and women's squads are ranked among the top two teams in the Atlantic Region according to the latest dual meet results provided by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The women's outdoor track and field program is thriving once again under the guidance of head coach Dave Osanitsch. The Lady Raiders have achieved 16 NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying marks during the outdoor season spanning eight different events.

Four athletes are guaranteed a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships, to be held May 27-29 in Charlotte, North Carolina and hosted by Johnson C. Smith University. Sophomore Amanda Raudabaugh (2:09.91 in 800 meters), senior Mary Dell (4:27.25 in 1,500 meters and 10:26.90 in 3,000-meter steeplechase), junior Abigail Huber (4:28.18 in 1,500 meters) and sophomore Neely Spence (16:13.34 in 5,000 meters) have all achieved automatic qualifying marks and will represent the Lady Raiders on the national stage.

The team's 11 provisional qualifying marks have been recorded by nine different athletes. In the field, junior Steph Harrison set a school record in the hammer throw with a throw of 169 feet 5 inches, junior Rebekah Newhart cleared 5 feet 6.5 inches in the high jump and senior Amanda Spickler leapt 38 feet 11.75 inches in the triple jump.

In all, the Lady Raiders have recorded 74 PSAC qualifying performances and currently hold the top conference marks in the 400 meters, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase, 4x400-meter relay, discus throw and hammer throw.

The men's outdoor track and field program is currently the highest-ranked PSAC program in the region and sits at No. 2 Saint Augustine's of the CIAA. No programs from the PSAC are currently ranked in the men's national poll.

SU has not attained any automatic qualifying marks to date but nine athletes have completed provisional qualifying performances. Junior Josh Hostetler ranks ninth in the nation with a javelin throw of 204 feet 4 inches; senior Josh Neyhart sits 10th in the nation for the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.96 and senior Donnie Graybill ranks 11th for the decathlon with a total of 6,557 points.

The Red Raiders have recorded 82 PSAC qualifying performances and currently hold the top conference marks in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, javelin and decathlon.

The USTFCCCA release represents performances accumulated by teams in the 2010 outdoor season through last weekend as reported to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Mathematical formulae are used to compile a team's ranking based on an athlete's or relay's standing in relation to others in the same event across the country.

A team's score in the national team rankings is a reflection of its “cumulative” chances as it relates ultimately to the NCAA Championships. The regional team index reflects a team's all-around strength in relation to other teams in their region.
