Results Through Day Two

WEST CHESTER, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team maintained its position atop the team standings Friday after day two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by West Chester University.

The Rock is out in front with 54 points, a number that will grow significantly when the placing for the pole vault is included Saturday morning. East Stroudsburg sits second with 49 points, followed by Shippensburg (46.50), Indiana (40) and Kutztown (33.50) rounding out the top-five.

In the events that were contested as finals on Friday, The Rock picked up a total of 38 points with contributions from multiple athletes. Some of the most impressive performances of the day, however, came in the preliminary rounds of the track events.

Amanda Seigworth set a school and PSAC championship meet record in posting the fastest qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 59.48 seconds. Amanda Smith posted the second-best time at 1:00.40, both of which are NCAA automatic qualifying marks.

Seigworth's time breaks the Slippery Rock and PSAC championship meet record of 59.59 seconds, set by Andi Rose in 2007. Her performance is also the second PSAC championship record broken by a Rock athlete this year, after Jen Harpp shattered the 10,000-meter record Thursday night.

Seigworth also posted the second-best 100m hurdle time in the prelims at 14.36 seconds, with Smith qualifying third with a time of 14.48 seconds.

The Rock's 4x100-meter relay of Seigworth, Smith, Tiffany Tedesco and Jayme Stanek posted the top qualifying time with a mark of 47.63 seconds.

Tedesco put down the second-best qualifying marks in both short sprints, posting a time of 12.51 seconds in the 100-meter dash and a mark of 25.42 seconds in the 200m. She was joined in the 200m by Rachel Knapp, who qualified seventh with a time of 26.08 seconds.

Caitlin Hancox ran a personal best of 2:14.70 to qualify sixth in the 800-meter run, while Kaela Snyder also ran a personal best of 57.36 seconds to qualify sixth in the 400-meter dash.

The Rock pole vaulters combined for the most points, with four athletes placing in the top-six in the event. Jen Hansen was leading the event with a clearance at her final height and a competitor from Shippensburg had missed on her first two attempts when a lightning delay forced the end of competition. Shippensburg's athlete will attempt her third and final try Saturday morning. Hansen is assured of at least a first or second-place finish.

Sarah Reppermund placed third, followed by Kelly Fischer in fifth and Angela Shroeder in sixth-place. The points for the pole vault are not included in the final scores posted after day two, due to the event not finishing.

The only track event that was contested as a final on Friday was the 5,000-meter run, where Jen Harpp and Crystal Burnick both scored points after impressive showings in the 10k late Thursday night. Harpp placed second, being outkicked by Neely Spence from Shippensburg, with an NCAA automatic qualifier of 16:56.83. Burnick crossed the line in fifth-place with a time of 17:53.56

The remainder of the finals contested Friday were field events.

Rachel Weber and Jade Hambrick each scored points in the shot put, with Weber placing second with a throw of 12.63 meters and Hambrick finishing fifth with a toss of 12.40m.

Kim Stitt finished the heptathlon in fourth-place, posting an NCAA provisional score of 4,712 points.

Jess Koerner placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.75 meters. She was joined by Weber in sixth-place with a throw of 45.77m.

Jessica Ferrick rounded out the point-scorers for SRU with an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.41 meters.

The championships will conclude Saturday with the finals in all remaining events. Competition is set to begin in the late morning and run through the afternoon.
