CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The Shippensburg University men's and women's outdoor track and field programs, under the guidance of head coach Dave Osanitsch '96, will send eight athletes to the Division II Outdoor National Championships to be held Thursday, May 27 through Saturday, May 29 at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.

It is the third straight year that the Raider program has sent at least eight competitors to the Division II National Championships. Over the past three seasons, Shippensburg has sent 26 athletes to the national meet.

The Shippensburg women's program currently ranks eighth in Division II and is poised for its strongest point showing to date at the national meet. The Lady Raiders currently have four entries among the top six in their respective event and do not have a seed lower than 13th entering the competition.

Sophomore Neely Spence will be seeking a national championship title defense in the 5,000 meters. She enters the outdoor meet as the No. 2 seed behind Queens (N.C.) senior Tanya Zeferjahn and boasts a top-time this season of 16:13.34. Spence also won the indoor 5K national title in March and has been victorious in both national collegiate 5K races in which she has competed.

Senior Mary Dell brings a streak of seven consecutive athletic seasons as an All-American into this year's competition but will be running the 3,000-meter steeplechase for just the fourth time in her career. Dell achieved an automatic qualifier for nationals in the first time that she ran the event and currently ranks third after posting a time of 10:26.90 at the Penn Relays.

Junior Erica Hess is making her third-consecutive appearance in the 400-meter dash and will be seeking her first All-American certificate in solo competition. Hess enters the national meet ranked 13th with a time of 55.33 seconds, a new school-record and personal-best time.

Fellow junior Abby Huber will be among the top competitors this season in the 1,500-meter run. She enters the competition ranked third among the field with a time of 4:28.18 that was achieved at the Princeton Elite Meet. Huber narrowly missed an All-American certificate last season with a 12th-place finish.

Three athletes will be making their National Championships debut as official competitors. Sophomore Amanda Raudabaugh ranks sixth in the nation for the 800-meter dash after her automatic-qualifying time of 2:09.10 that was achieved at the Princeton Elite Meet. Freshman Megan Breski ranks 12th in the country after achieving a school-record pole vault of 12 feet 4.5 inches at the PSAC Outdoor Championships.

The third newcomer is on the men's side, as senior Josh Neyhart ranks 15th in the 1,500-meter run after posting a time of 3:48.96 at Princeton. The other men's representative will be junior Josh Hostetler, a defending All-American in the javelin. Hostetler enters the competition as the ninth seed after his throw of 204 feet 4 inches at the Paul Kaiser Classic from Seth Grove Stadium.
