SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Five members of the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team were accepted into the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track And Field Championships Wednesday when the list of accepted entries was released by the NCAA.

“We're really excited to have these five women accepted into the national meet,” said head coach John Papa. “These ladies have been amongst the best athletes in the region and in the nation this season and this is a well-deserved reward for their efforts.”

The Rock will send seniors Jen Harpp and Jen Hansen, along with juniors Amanda Seigworth, Allison Smith and Kim Stitt to compete in the National Championships, which will be May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.

The top-eight finishers in each event at the National Championships will earn All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Jen Harpp

Hansen will lead the group into the nation meet in search of completing a career-sweep with her fourth outdoor and sixth overall All-America honor in the pole vault.

After sitting out the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2008-09, Hansen has returned to her position as one of the nation's leaders in the pole vault in 2009-10. She claimed her seventh overall and fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title last weekend with a clearance of 4.02 meters, which will be the second-best seed in the nation entering the National Championships. The top mark in the country belongs to Lauren Stelten of Minnesota State-Mankato at 4.10 meters.

Hansen has earned All-America honors in each of her previous three trips to the outdoor national meet to go along with two indoor honors, including a third-place finish this past indoor season.

Harpp will highlight the distance runners after posting automatic qualifying times in both the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs. She will not declare for the 5,000m, leaving her hopes for All-America honors in the 10k.

Allison Smith and Amanda Seigworth
Harpp won the PSAC title in the 10k in dominating fashion last week, posting a PSAC championship and Slippery Rock record of 34:16.89 in the event. That time ranks as the third-best in the nation this season behind Tanya Zeferjahn of Queens (33:09.47) and Sarah Porter of Western Washington (33:36.18). The fourth seed, Meagan Nedlo of Queens, is just over 20 seconds slower than Harpp at 36:37.06.

Seigworth is the lone SRU athlete that will compete in two events at the national meet after being accepted into the field in both the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and the 100-meter high hurdles.

Kim Stitt
Seigworth won the PSAC title and posted a conference championship and Slippery Rock record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.48 seconds last weekend. She will enter the national meet with the fifth-best time, as one of only five athletes that have broken the 1:00.00 barrier this season. Aisha Adams of Angelo State holds the top seed at 57.94 seconds.

Seigworth also placed second in the 100m hurdles at the PSAC meet with a mark of 14.19 seconds, which ranks her 17th in the nation. The top seed of 13.13 seconds belongs to Indira Spence of Adams State.

Smith will join Seigworth in the 400-meter hurdles after placing second in the PSAC championships last weekend and posting an automatic qualifying time of 1:00.40. That mark ranks seventh in the nation.

The final Slippery Rock qualifier on the women's side will be Stitt, who placed second at the PSAC Championships in the triple jump with a personal best leap of 12.00 meters. That jump bumped her up to 16th in the nation and earned her a place in the field at the national meet. The top seed in the event is Antoinette Oglesby with a leap of 12.63m.

The Rock men's track and field team narrowly missed sending four athletes to the National Championships, as Chris Warning, Joel Peters, Brady Wert and Kevin Jewel just missed the cut in their respective events.

Any links for live coverage that may be available during the National Championships will be posted online at www.RockAthletics.com during the week prior to the meet.
