CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Mary Dell qualified for the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and junior Abby Huber reached the finals of the 1,500-meter run while junior Erica Hess set a school record in the 400 meters on the first day of qualifying at the Division II Outdoor National Championships from the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.

Dell qualified with a time of 10:42.48 that ranks her fourth entering the finals. She had a photo finish with Western State's Hillory Davis at the end of the second qualifying heat but was deemed to finish just thousandths of a second behind Davis. On Saturday, Dell will look to extend her streak of consecutive athletic seasons as an All-American to eight.

Huber reached the 1,500-meter finals after a smart run during the qualifying session. She entered as the third seed in the nation and posted a time of 4:31.10 that ranked third through the preliminaries. On Saturday, Huber will seek her first individual All-American finish after a 12th-place effort last season.

Hess shattered the school record in the 400 with a new personal-best and became the first ever Lady Raider to post a time under 55 seconds. Her time of 54.70 seconds put her just three spots short of qualifying for the finals.

In men's competition, senior Josh Neyhart competed in the 1,500-meter run and finished 17th.

On Friday, freshman Megan Breski will compete in the pole vault finals at 5:05 p.m. before sophomore Amanda Raudabaugh and sophomore Neely Spence will run qualifiers in the 800 and 5K respectively.
