CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
Jen Harpp earned her fourth career All-America honor and
Amanda Seigworth broke her own school record Thursday night to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team on the first day of the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
The top-eight finishers in each event at the national meet earn All-America honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Harpp picked up the honor with a sixth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, posting a time of 35:06.17.
The All-America finish is the second of Harpp's career at the outdoor meet and the fourth total in her career, accompanying one each from indoor track and field and cross country. Thursday's race was the final outdoor race of Harpp's collegiate career, but not her final race in a Rock uniform as she will return next season for her final year of eligibility in cross country and indoor track and field.
Amanda Seigworth bettered her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles, which she set two weeks ago at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships, posting a time of 59.27 seconds in the preliminary round of the event. She placed second in her heat and will advance to Saturday's final with the fifth-fastest time.
Allison Smith also competed in the 400-meter hurdles prelims, posting a time of 1:00.80 and narrowly missing the cut-off for the finals by 0.79 seconds.
Seigworth will compete in the 100-meter hurdles prelims Friday and will compete in the finals of the 400m hurdles Saturday evening.
Also competing for The Rock Friday will be
Jen Hansen and
Kim Stitt, who will compete in the pole vault and triple jump events, respectively.
