SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University men's track and field standout
Chris Warning was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors Thursday in a release by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Warning earned second team honors in District II after posting a 3.63 cumulative grade point average and having an outstanding season in the throwing events.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and have significant athletic credentials.
Warning, who finished his collegiate career this season, won his second conference title in the discus at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships in May. His winning throw at the PSAC meet was over 14 feet better than the second-place finisher.
Warning posted the 17th-best discus throw in Division II this season with a mark of 51.49 meters, narrowly missing entry into the National Championships.
The senior criminology major also reached the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the hammer throw, placing fourth at the PSAC meet.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams are voted on by CoSIDA. District II includes all Division II and Division III institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and West Virginia.
