SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Stephen Schelander was selected to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team for the College Division of District II, which encompasses all Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior colleges in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Schelander, a sophomore economics major with a 3.89 grade-point average (GPA), was the team's top runner at the 2009 Division II Cross Country Championships with a time of 33:02. He finished 67th overall but was the fourth-fastest PSAC runner and 17th-fastest sophomore that competed at the national championships.

Schelander's other cross country accolades included All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region merits for Top-20 finishes at each meet. Schelander was SU's third-fastest runner at the regional meet and achieved an eighth-place finish in 31:57. The former PSAC Cross Country Rookie of the Year was an integral factor in Shippensburg winning its first Atlantic Region Championship this season from Mansfield.

During the track and field seasons, Schelander was a two-time placewinner at both the indoor and outdoor PSAC championship meets. During the indoor season, Schelander earned All-PSAC honors in the 4x800-meter relay with a third-place team finish and individually placed seventh in the mile (4:16.58). At the PSAC outdoor meet, Schelander earned all-conference honors in the 5K with a third-place time of 15:05.87 and also placed in the 1,500 meters.
