Day 2 Results
CHESTER, Pa. – On the second day of the Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet, junior high jumper
Justin Gewirtz leaped his way to a gold medal and a NCAA "B" cut in the event with a new career best mark of 6-07.50 feet Friday afternoon at the Leslie C. Quirk, Jr. Stadium.
Also setting another program record was
Kim Hummel in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 12:26.37. Her record setting time earned her a sixth place finish and Second Team All-Conference honors. Also earning All-Conference honors was Mackenzie Miller in the triple jump with her final mark of 34-04.25 feet to place fifth.
Combined the Lions runners qualified for the finals in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes, and the 400 meter hurdles.
Competing for all-conference honors and possibly a medal tomorrow afternoon will be
Taylor Kutz in the 100 after finishing in third place with a preliminary time of 13.36 seconds. Kutz also qualified for the finals in the 200 with her prelim time of 26.99, which was a mere 68 hundredths of a second off the Albright program record.
Qualifying for the finals in the 400 meter dash was
Shannon Loos who placed eighth in the prelims with a time of 1:01.62. On the men's side
Oshane Rennie will compete in the final round of the 400 hurdles after finishing in fourth place in the preliminary round with a time of 57.36 seconds.
The men's 4x100 relay team will also lace up their shoes tomorrow for the final heat after finishing in eighth place with a time of 45.22 seconds.
Also recording solid finishes for the Lady Lions in the 100 meter dash was Shannon Loos who finished in 10th place with a time of 13.47 seconds. Right behind her in 13th place was
Dezare Lyles with a time of 13.85 seconds.
Adey Olaoluwa closed out the 100 in 18th place with a time of 14.29.
After Kutz in the 200 was
Meghan Loos in 12th place with a time of 27.32, and Lyles in 18th with a time of 28.79. Meghan Loos recorded her first top-10 finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.07, while
Danielle DiPietro finished the event in 12th place with a time of 1:04.33.
Gabby Stine, posted a seventh place finish in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time 13:08.79. Freshman thrower
Lindsay Boyd closed out the women's event with a 13th place finish in the shot put (29-04.75 ft).
On the men's side
Bob Kellert recorded a time of 10:52.90 to finish in 15th place in the 3,000 meter steeple chase.
Dane Canonico earned a top-10 throw of 42-05.50 feet in the shot put, and
Andrew Hettinger closed out the discus in 13th place with a throw of 110-01 feet.
To date the men's team is currently in 7th place with 12 points, while the women's team is sitting in ninth with 13 points.
The Lions will close out the championship meet tomorrow.
