Gewirtz Takes First in the High Jump at Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – It was another solid afternoon for jumper Justin Gewirtz as the junior standout claimed another first place finish in the high jump event. With a jump over 6-02.00 feet, Gewirtz defeated 12 other competitors Saturday afternoon at the Shippensburg University Paul Kaiser Classic.

Along with Gewirtz's first place finish, the Women's 4x100 relay team of Shannon Loos, Meghan Loos, Taylor Kutz, and Mackenzie Miller placed fifth with a time of 51.49 seconds.

Shannon Loos also finished 12th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.83. Meghan and Kutz also placed in the top-20 in the 400 with times of 1:02.86 and 1:02.87 to finish in 18th and 19th place respectively.

Distance runner Kim Hummel put together another solid performance Saturday afternoon finishing in 14th place (20:13.85) in her first ever running of the 5,000 meter run.

For the men's team Oshane Rennie earned 14th place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.82, which was a new personal best for the freshman. Rennie also set a new personal best in the 110 meter Hurdles with a time of 16.46 seconds, to finish in the 17th place.

Bob Kellert shattered his career best in the extremely difficult 3,000 meter Steeple Chase with a new time of 10:39.82, which was nearly 30 seconds better than his original time. In the field events, Daniel Simmons took ninth in the long jump with a new personal best of 21-03.00 feet.

Throwers Dane Canonico, Robert Baldwin, and Jordan Fegley recorded solid tosses throughout their respective events. Canonico finished in 14th place in the shot put and hammer throw, and 21st in the discus. Baldwin took 17th place in the hammer and 23rd in the discus, while Fegley finished in 19th place in the javelin.

Track returns to action next Saturday when they compete in the York College Charity/Alumni Open.
