Official Site

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The return of pole vaulter Jeremy Scott will be one of many highlights at the Fourth Annual Gator Track and Field Invitational, which will take place at the Robertson Complex on Friday.

Scott, a 2003 Allegheny graduate, was a star athlete during his time in Meadville. Most recently, he won the 2009 United Stated Track and Field Championship in his signature pole vault event.

Within the collegiate ranks, the Gator Invite will feature 14 different athletes who claimed All-America honors in their respective events, including Allegheny's own Lauren Butler and Chris Marker. Butler was an NCAA Division III All-American in the women's javelin while Marker earned his honor in the men's 5,000-meter run.

Others within D-III include four women from four different schools.

Case Western's Erin Hollinger and Frostburg State's Emily Furr will meet again in the high jump; they tied for the Gator Invite championship in 2009. Annie Patton of Mount Union and Jessica Starks of Capital will compete in the javelin and 200, respectively.

Other D-III men include two Mount Union athletes, including a defending national champion, two Baldwin-Wallace throwers and one Thiel runner.

Ty Griffin won the 1,500 D-III title for Mount Union last year. His teammate, Judd Lutz, was also an All-American in the shot put. Baldwin-Wallace will be represented by discus man Kevin Phipps and shot putter Greg Patrick. Alex Eaton of Thiel was the national runner-up in the 400 last year.

The Gator Invite will also feature some athletes who have succeeded at the NAIA level.

Aaron Melhorn of Malone won his second straight men's 3,000 steeplechase championship in 2009. He was also an All-American in the men's 5K.

Two Notre Dame of Ohio athletes -- Tim Robinson and Tiffany Tucker -- were All-NAIA in the men's shot put and women's 100 hurdles, respectively.

Ahead of last year's national meets, 16 eventual D-III All-Americans and one eventual NAIA All-American participated at the Gator Invitiational. They combined for 20 All-America awards and three national championships. Griffin (1,500) and Frostburg's Sumer Rohrs (100 hurdles, 400 hurdles) were D-III champs.
