DELAWARE, Ohio -- Three different Allegheny men --
Ryan Hanson,
Andrew Mahone and
Chris Marker -- won individual events on day two of the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan, helping the Gators place third overall. Allegheny had 93 team points and trailed champ Ohio Wesleyan (220) and Wabash (161.5).
In the 5,000-meter run, Marker snapped his own NCAC record, clocking in at 14:54.98. He had run a time of 14:59.90 at the 2009 NCAC Championships. Teammates
Ryan Sullivan (15:22.09), Jakeb Zimmerman (15:39.83) and
Patrick McLaughlin (15:42.24) followed in third, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Hanson successfully defended his title in the 1,500, winning in 4:00.11. Ben Eyer placed third in 4:02.18. Mahone won the 800 in 1:55.52 while teammate
Mike Vlah came in third (1:56.23).
A pair of Gator athletes scored in the 3,000 steeplechase. Matt Brush finished third in 9:42.07 and Mike Faix took seventh (10:16.53).
Taylor Throckmorton placed fifth in the 400 (:49.70).
Allegheny's 4x400 relay team added a third-place finish (3:24.43). It consisted of Mahone, Vlah, Eyer and Throckmorton.
Teams that finished behind the Gators included Oberlin (89), Wooster (69), Wittenberg (61), Denison (56), Earlham (47), Kenyon (18.5) and Hiram (0).
