Allegheny Women Place Third

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Lauren Butler claimed her second individual crown, winning the women's javelin, while Beth Muller was the 200-meter dash champion and Mia Symoniak won the 5,000 on day two of the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan. The Gators placed third overall with 127.5 points, finishing behind champion Ohio Wesleyan (223.83) and Oberlin (146.5).

Butler's provisional toss of 131 feet, 5 inches (40.06 meters) bested the field in the javelin -- just one day after she won the shot put. Teammate Caileigh Hughes was seventh in the javelin with a distance of 90-5 (27.55m).

Butler also grabbed third in the hammer throw (123-5, 37.62m) while Kristen Collins wasa seventh (108-8, 33.12m).

Muller's time in the 200 was :26.30, followed by teammate Rebecca Lendyak, who took third in :26.82. The Allegheny sprinters had a strong performance at NCACs. Muller also was second in the 400 (:58.35), losing out to Oberlin's Marissa Clardy (:57.66). Lendyak was the 100 runner-up, finishing behind Alexia Derkasch of Kenyon (:12.66).

Symoniak led a group of three Gators in the Top 6 during the 5K. Her winning time was 17:44.67. Kelly Gallagher, who won the 10,000 on Friday, ran the 5K in 18:53.60. Katie Stancik placed sixth in 19:15.81.

Stancik's top finish of the meet came in the 1,500 when she crossed in 4:51.25 -- good enough for fourth place. Sara Mitrano finished sixth in 4:58.26.

Holly Wilson placed third in the triple jump, stretching 33-7 1/4 (10.24m). Hannah Smith jumped to seventh (32-7 1/2, 9.94m)

In the 800, Samantha Zink (2:21.70) and Angie Dyer (2:25.05) took fifth and eighth, respectively.

Stephanie Alberico ran to sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:11.15) and Emily Norton was seventh in the high jump (4-7 1/2, 1.41m).

In the team standings, the Gators were followed by Wittenberg (102.5), Wooster (72.5), Denison (55), Kenyon (54.33) and Earlham (34.83).
