Ferrizzi Takes Gold, Nerney Silver at Commonwealth Championships

2010 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Season Recap

The Crusaders placed last in the first contest of the outdoor season at Lebanon Valley College with highlighted performances by Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ./ Red Bank Catholic) in the high jump and Freshman, Joshua Fretz (Oley, Pa./ Oley) in the triple jump and the 400 meter. The Crusaders then competed in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener where two athletes managed to qualify for the MAC Outdoor Championship, Brennon Ferrizzi (Boyertown, Pa./ Boyertown) ran the 200 meter in 23.71 seconds and Brian Nerney jumped 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump. 

The team continued their season at the West Chester Invitational in the beginning of April where again Ferrizzi and Fretz led the team with spectacular performances; both Ferrizzi and Fretz qualified for the MAC Championships in long jump. Winding down the season, the Crusaders participated in the Millersville Metric in York, Pa. At the Millersville Metric Ferizzi added to his MAC Commonwealth Conference Championship qualifications in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and the long jump. 

Junior Brennon Ferrizzi took the gold for the 400m with a time of 50.14 at the Commonwealth Championship. Sophomore, Brian Nerney took the silver for the high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters. Nerney continued to the ECAC Championships where he placed 4th place in the high jump. The Crusaders finished 9th out of 11 after the University's inaugural season at the MASCAC Track and Field Championships that were held at Widener University at the Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. 

The team graduates only one senior, Adrien McDonald (Bethesda, MD./St. John's College). Look for a promising performance by the returning Crusaders in next year's season.
