Trio carries Rock banner into PSFCA East West All-Star Game

SRU will be represented in Friday's game in Altoona by alumnus Bob Jacoby and 2010 recruits Gary Allen and Admire Carter

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will be well represented at Friday's Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) East West All-Star Game at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona.

Rock graduate Bob Jacoby, the head coach at Bishop Canevin High School, will serve as an assistant coach for the West team under All-Star head coach Dave Vestal (Hopewell High School).

On that West team will be two of The Rock's new recruits, linebacker Gary Allen from North Allegheny High School and defensive back/return specialist Admire Carter from Beaver Falls High School.

The game will be televised live on the Pennsylvania Cable Network ( PCN ) starting at 6 p.m.

Jacoby has compiled a 212-163-7 record in 37 seasons as a high school head coach and has led teams to eight conference championships, 12 WPIAL playoff appearances, one PIAA state runner-up finish, one WPIAL title, one WPIAL runner-up finish and two WPIAL semifinal appearances. He has been named as a "Coach of the Year" on five occasions.

Allen (6-foot, 210 pounds), the son of former Rock standout Rick Allen, "is a physical hitter who brings a relentless attitude to the defense,” according to Rock Head Football Coach George Mihalik.

Allen recorded 109 total tackles last fall en route to PSFCA West All-Star, PNACA All-Star and first-team all-conference honors. A team captain in his senior season, he was a three-year letterwinner and two-year starters at NA.

Carter (5-10, 170) has the quickness and speed that allows him to be a big-play game-changer, Coach Mihalik said. “He could have an immediate impact on our program.”

A first-team all-state selection as a return specialist, Carter earned Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Fab 22 West” honors as a senior and was a two-time all-conference selection as both a wide receiver and defensive back. He recorded 14 interceptions in his scholastic career and was a three-time all-conference performer in baseball.
